Saints Mary and Mathias Catholic School is located in Muscatine, Iowa. We are located 45 minutes from the Quad Cities and 50 minutes from Iowa City, Iowa. We are a small, private Catholic School educating preschool through 8th grade students. 

 

 

Assistant Principal Job Opening for the 2025-26 school year

 

Department: Administration                                    Work year: 11 months

Reports to: Principal                                               Salary range: Based on experience

 

Job Description:

Assistant principal to our principal to support our preschool through 8^th grade school. This is a full-time position; 11 months of the year.

 

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; communicates clearly with students, parents and school faculty/staff
• Strong leadership skills
• Problem solving skills; able to independently identify issues, collaborate with principal and staff to find effective solutions.
• Build and foster a positive teamwork atmosphere
• Possesses time management skills
• Manage substitute teachers/support staff for the building
• Complete formal evaluations of teachers and staff
• Support student curriculum
• Lead staff professional development with collaboration
• Create a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment that excites students and staff
• Motivate students and staff to realize high academic and social standards
• Determined and dependable
• Passionate about working with students and staff
• Supports and implements the ministry of Catholic school education
• Be a Catholic in Good Standing, who has knowledge of the Catholic faith adequate to teach its content OR be a non-Catholic fully committed to the distinctive purpose, philosophy, and spirit of Catholic School education.

Education and License Required:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Iowa teaching license
• Must hold valid Iowa Administrative Licensure

Experience Required: Previous experience preferred but not required.

 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace. The ability to accompany students anywhere on school premises. The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift. Regular attendance on the job is expected and necessary. The employee must be physically able to react and intervene quickly during crisis situations, such as but not limited to the following circumstances: emergency drills, student elopement, physical altercations involving students.
