Middle School ELA/Reading Teacher

Position Summary

Notre Dame Middle School/High School is seeking a dedicated ELA/Reading Teacher to join our staff. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing engaging instruction in English Language Arts and Reading for middle school students while fostering literacy growth, critical thinking, effective communication, and a love of learning. The teacher will create a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes both academic achievement and personal growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver standards-based instruction in English Language Arts and Reading.
• Develop lessons that strengthen reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, grammar, speaking, and listening skills.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
• Utilize assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.
• Maintain accurate records of student achievement, attendance, and classroom activities.
• Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school staff regarding academic progress and student needs.
• Foster a positive classroom culture built on respect, responsibility, and high expectations.
• Implement effective classroom management practices that support student engagement and learning.
• Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and support staff to promote student success.
• Participate in school events, professional development opportunities, and faculty meetings.
• Support the mission and values of Burlington Notre Dame.

Qualifications

Required

• Valid Iowa Teaching License with appropriate endorsement(s) for middle school English Language Arts/Reading.
• Knowledge of best practices in literacy instruction and adolescent learning.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Effective classroom management abilities.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Preferred

• Previous middle school teaching experience.
• Experience using educational technology and learning management systems.
• Experience supporting diverse learners through differentiated instruction.
