High School Musical Director (Theatre)
Position Summary The Musical Director is responsible for the overall artistic direction and production of the school musical. This individual leads the dramatic and theatrical elements of the production, working closely with vocal directors, choreographers, technical staff, and the Activities Director to create a high-quality theatrical experience for students and the school community.
Primary Responsibilities
Production Leadership

Select the annual musical in collaboration with the Activities Director.

Develop the artistic vision and staging for the production.

Lead and facilitate auditions, casting, and callbacks.

Direct all dramatic and acting elements of the show.
Rehearsals

Plan and run rehearsals focused on acting, blocking, character development, and stage movement.

Coordinate rehearsal schedules (date, time and location) with the Activities Office.

Ensure rehearsals run efficiently and respectfully for all participants.
Student Development

Teach students acting fundamentals, stage presence, and character development.

Foster a positive, inclusive, and educational environment for all participants.

Encourage teamwork, accountability, and personal growth through the theatre process.
Production Management

Oversee blocking, scene transitions, and pacing of the production.

Attend and lead technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals.

Ensure the show is performance-ready and runs smoothly during all performances.
Program Leadership

Support the mission and expectations of the school activities program.

Maintain clear communication with students, parents, and school staff.

Uphold school policies and promote a safe rehearsal environment.
Qualifications

Experience in theatre direction, acting, or stage production.

Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
